My S-130 is having charging issues. I pulled the alternator, had it bench tested, they say it is good. I initally thought maybe a blown fuse, I checked that, all is good there too. Is there a circuit diagram anyone can provide that shows the exciter wire routing? I checked for continuity between the output lug on the alternator and the end on the battery and there is continuity. I didn't ohm it out to see if it had a bad fusable link, but it didn't look like it had one either.
Does anyone have any ideas what might be ailing it? Also not working are the backup alarm and the horn, which were previously working. I am almost leaning towards a problem in the fuse panel or harness assembly.

25 amp alt and kits fuse. Do you have 12 volts to alternator?. I have seen a couple of tines guys change starters and hook the positive cable from the alt to the wrong lug on the starter.

Are you refering to the large wire from the charging lug on the alternator to the startor, or a separate signal wire? The charging wire is there, if there is a signal wire that is separate that is the info i am looking for to verify. My starter was changed.

First off check your large wire from the alt is going to the same post on the starter as the postive battery cable. In the two pin connector, one should have 12 volts with the key on. The other is basically a loop from the alternator. Did the charging problem start after the starter was changed?

Finally got around to digging into this more. I have been busy with other stuff so I haven't been able to get on this like I would have preffered.
The big red wire is going to the proper lug on the starter, key off at the starter and the alternator reads 11.56 volts (battery is low by now). The pair of wires in the plug key on has no voltage on either side.
The fuse panel fuse for the alternator has 12v both sides.
Honestly I don't think the problem has been just since the starter. I think the problem has been intermittent for some time now. At one point I tracked it back to a loose ground on the motor and fixed that and all seemed well for some time. I have since re-checked all grounds and all are good.

This has me stumped. Any more thoughts? Were in the harness does the 12v from the panel come out at so I can start tracing back for chaffed or broken wires.

Also still inop are the backup alarms and horn, which worked fine till a month ago.

Could I have a computer that is starting to crap out on me?

Fire the machine up, you should have 14v+ across battery. If so, alternator is just fine. But, I have a sneaky suspicion your alt/kits fuse is bad or at least a connection for it. That fuse when blown, will illuminate the battery light, as well as no horn or backup alarm will work. As stated in other posts, your reverse switch's could be shorting out, as well as front side assy. connector cable assembly will also take out that fuse, again making it seem as though machine isn't charging.

Good day, I am having the same sort of problem. Once a month or so, the ALT fuse blows on my S130 and the Battery dies. I replace the fuse and jump the battery. Machine good for another month or so. I read in the posts about reverse switches being a possible cause. What exactly are reverse switches? What should I be looking for to correct this issue?

If your machine has a back up alarm. there are two little switched the steer levers hit to turn the alarm on when you back up. If you don't have an alarm, you don't have these switches. Also if you have a cab door and the wiring for that is damaged, it can blow the fuse or if you have a 7 pin electrical connector by the aux coupler and it is smashed, that can blow the fuse too. Otherwise, the alternator maybe failing and blowing the fuse.

There is no aux connector, and I had the alternator tested and gone through. It does however have the back up alarm so should I try disconnecting the two switches you mentioned? Is it the actual switches that could cause this problem or the wiring to the switches?
