Inner tubes are they worth it?

I drive a NH L565, with 10-16.5 wheels on rough-rocky ground. Over time the wheel rims have got bent till when air pressure gets low a tire can go flat quickly. Should I try inner tubes or pop for new tires/wheels?

Some tyres have a rim guard, it covers the side of the rim to protect from this. You way want to consider these when you need to change them later on.
I think a tube would help, the only problem is, if you get a puncture, it's more work to repair. Some times that's the price you need to pay.

Thank you for the reply Tazza. The tyres on the wheels do have rim guard, the rims are just too bent, have you knowledge about getting rims trued. For now I am looking at using a few cans of "fix-a-flat", knowing that will make for a mess when I get around to fixing things right. Trying to wait for the right deal at auction... Thanks again

Just how beat up are they? I have had a few bad ones that i put ear muffs on and went at them with a big hammer. Get the sides back into shape then go over them with a grinder with a flap wheel to get rid of any sharp and high bits. They don't need to be spot on round, as long as it's an even flatness for the tyre to seal on, that's all you need. I give them a good couple of coats of paint too, this helps seal them even more as you get a nice smooth finish.
I have yet to have one that didn't seal right after doing this. I'd use the tyre sealant as a last resort, a tube is a better option as you won't have a big mess when you need a new tyre.

emphanticaly no. tubes have no place in the construction industry. one nail leaves 5 guys with hands in pocket. one really pissed off foreman. and DOWN TIME. NEW RIMS GOOD TIRES AND SEALANT. deal with nail when the checks in the bank. i reccomend new tires in spring when were mud slogging. should last till next season. now i do have one concrete guy ( this is guy who can caculate fuel maint etc cost down to the penny per hr) who runs nothing but severe duty tires says he gets three to one , seen it first hand, added expense saves him money,

I'm still listening, damn that big hammer is loud, (2 rims have a new shape) glad I had my ears protected. If I had 5 guys working I would tell them to do it. That $600+ will stay in my pocket a bit longer. Rock&Roll love it.

It sure does get noisy, that's why i always wear ears when doing that. They are hard, but a bit of time with a hammer, seems to get them into reasonable shape.
Good to hear you got them sorted and saved a few pennies doing so.

More on the inner tube question. Turned out the side wall was cracked, just enough that over a few days it got low and sand could work in between the tire and rim then a fast flat. So for $36 I am running that tire with a tube. No problems yet.

while at my bobcat dealer getting a tube in my tire, i picked up a slightly used tire and rim for $100, so the next time i have a flat on a weekend, all i have to do is swap tires. when i need to replace my tires, i might just go that same route instead of paying $1000 for a new set of tires.

sorry man that may have been a little harsh, that comes from field swrvice call in subzero temps mud slinining breakining down tracks cribbining blocks sinking only to find a tube, travellining back to shop and turning a 150 tire into a 700;00 repair plus parts now for us it is billable time, for you its just SAD, easy to prevent proactive not reactive.

I put tubes in mine because the beads are trashed and still have real good tread and I only use it for my stuff and my dads snow blowing. yes it will make more work when not if I get a puncture and I hope to see it before it shreds the tube, for me to toss these is not feasible they are 12 ply 33 15.5 16.5 you cant get 4 of these for $1000. so the real answer to me is it depends on the situation. yes they will hold air but weigh the options

We run tubes . Yes nails suck but so does a leaky sidewall. Spare tires are good insurance. While sealant helps its not a cure all. We do our tire repair so with 5 loaders I can fix a flat in 10 minutes. Better quality tires help also.
