Ok here goes. I bought a NH l454 at an auction.. it was one of those deals where i didnt realize it was coming up so quick and i hadnt looked it over. I did glance at it and the hour meter showed 997 hours, and its exterior condition reflected that. Long story short went to load it and it wouldnt start, came to find that the crank was broken in the main on the back end. It has a 2 cyl continental engine. So i pulled it and sent it to my machinist. After tearing it down he stated i would have way over a grand in it when i was done, and he wasn't completely sure he was going to be able to find all the parts. I had previously bought 2 toro reelmasters with the intention of using the engines for a generator and the other to repower my yanmar powered john deere mower. After doing some measuring i decided to attempt to install one of the 3 cyl mitsubishi deisels in place of the continental gasser. So far here is my progress. Ive installed the toro electric pump and fuel filter set up in the skid, I've reused the rear mount off the gas engine , retained the stock mitsu starter bracket by cutting the gas mount , redrilling it and welding the starter bracket to the engine mount. I've drilled the mitsu flywheel to accept the continental hyd coupler. I have it sitting in the skid now hanging on the back mount and the picker. I've yet to fabricate front mounts but its pretty straight forward. It fits so nice that the stock mitsu fan lines up in the NH radiator fan shroud. All that is good and dandy, any monkey can get an engine in with enough welding wire and a torch. Now here are my issues...: 1 I found a wiring diagram for the toro, all pretty simple except the injection pump. It has 3 wires, 1 ground and 2 power wires. I dont really understand what they do, In the diagram 1 is marked pull and the other is hold. could someone explain? 2 The new holland dealer here is less than helpfull. When I asked them for a diagram for the l454 the response i got was " we dont just give that out, If you have a problem bring it in" I then explained what im doing to which i got..." we don't ever wanna see that thing here" and " The mitsubishi will never have enough power to run that machine, your wasting your time. I planned on using the stock op sender and coolant temp sensor, not an issue, but it would be nice if i had a diagram to wire in the glow plugs and stuff. I dont want to overload a circuit. Would anyone out there have a wire color chart or a diagram for it? Do you guys think the dealer is right? is it a waste of time? toro literature claims 32 hp out of the diesel, im unclear what the gasser was, but this is a pretty small skid, heck the mower had way more hyd goodies than the skid. 8 hydraulic reel motors...6 hyd lift rams...2 hyd steering rams...and it was a full hydro drive. Thanks in advance, I'm so glad I found a forum like this. Jamey Brandon Middle River Automotive

Frankly, that dealer is a toss pot. If the HP ratings are close or higher than the gasser, it will be fine. Diesel has more torque than a petrol engine does anyway.
The fuel shut off solenoid, wire the pull wire to the starter so when you crank, it pulls. Wire the hold to the key power, so when the key is on, there is power ot this wire. As easy as that.
The glow plugs, wire in a push buton switch to a relay in the engine bay. Run a power wire from the battery/+ve on the starter then to the relay, then to the glow plugs. You will not over load anything that way.
