Hey guys, Over the past 3 months my '02 185 has been shutting down intermittently for no apparent reason, doesn't matter if it's under load or ust idling it tends to just quit. When this happens I reset the key and it starts right up business as usual. Yesterday went to start it to move snow. When I turned the key on all the gauges lit up but it would not crank. no power to starter. Anyway when I turned the key off everything stayed on and it just cylcled through the gloow plug warmup continously. Is this as simple as a bad ingnition? I disconnested the ignition switch in an attempt to get the machine to shut down but it did notthing. I disconnected power at the battery to get it to shut down. Looking for a way to get this thing going without incurring a major housecall service bill. Thanks.

Thats a tough one, could be many things. You can always make these run by tieing the injection pump shutoff solinoid on. If it gets to the point where the problem stays it will be much easier to trouble shoot.
The computer is inside the frame by your left leg/ankle. You could remove the wire plugs there and at the dash panels andcheck the cleaness of the conections and put some new dielectric grease on them

being you say you got a key which would mean no keyless panel , that would make me think it's in the controller , moisture maybe an issue as you mentioned snow , take the controller out and bring it inside over night

At this point I've tested the relays...not the problem. I've swapped out the ignition switch with a known working switch...not the problem. Interestingly enough I tried cutting power to the battery and starting it and was able to get it started and moved into my shed. It ran for about 2 minutes then quit. when I when to restart it would not crank at all. I'm starting to wonde if it could not be the fuel solenoid itself?

Why would you think it is the fuel shut off solenoid if it doesn't crank? The fuel solenoid has nothing to do with the cracking of the engine. Have you checked to see if there is power on the starter exciter wire? If no power there follow it back to the controller and see if there is power. keep on following backwards to key switch and so on. check grounds. check for codes does it have any? check voltage. It could be the controller try swapping it out with another one. good luck

I think you have bad battery connections. The controllers will do weird things when going into protective shutdown due to high or low volage.

What was the code? When it shuts down, Push and hold the "lights button" There is code.

This thread is several months old,I wonder if the OP got it fixed and I wonder what actually was his problem and what the fix was...
