You have the right idea for shape, i have seen them with teeth on the sides to help cut through the roots. If you wanted it to keep its edge, welding hard facing to the sides would help too.

yeah i had a couple idea's in my head , going to cut 3 short teeth and put on the edge
as a test , and i was thinking some type of ripping teeth on the sides or a ripped 45 %
edge on the sides .. i will post some follow up pics as i complete it , if i dont like it
or it doesnt do the job i can cut it off and redo as needed . once you stick it into the ground
a couple of times you should be able to tell where it needs to be redone .
Thanks for any replies

Looing good, still a fair bit to do. Will be interesting when done.
Well it's a done project , may go back and add some teeth and maybe a cutting edge of some sort , took 3 hrs to complete today , dug up 2 stumps and took down 1 tree about 10 inch in diameter . the stumps came out pretty easy , the tree i had to work alittle but it was to bad to do . still have a few more projects to do a bale spike and a 3 pt conversion for the bobcat .

Great job on the design and fabrication of this bucket, just shows that you can make very useful attachments out of materials that may have seen better days or made for different purposes entirely. But I also have to complement you on your picture up loading ability, how do you do it? I can see you are using an online photo hosting service, do they give you the option to scroll through your images or is that another link or program? And which browser do you prefer to use? cheers Gazza

I believe the images are animated gifs, you need a program to load them into to create it, then it's simply hosted on a website.
Much like this:

well the second one is done and it turned out better than the first i did add to small teeth about 4 inches up from the front of the lip , i tore out 3 small tree's in a matter of minutes on each one , dug a small trench 100 ft for water run off betwen the garage and the carport which has been a problem when we do get a down pour , when it settles it should be around a 4 inch depth for run off , and last i did with the bucket was dig another trench about 1 1/2 ft deep for the buried power wires that i ran from the garage to the enclosed carport so i will have some lights out there this winter and power if i need to charge the battery in the bobcat to get it started .

Put some over the tire tracks on that machine if you reallly want to utilize that attachment. The extra push they provide will really help you sink that spade into the soil. Wiggle a little with the breakout cylinder and push it in with little to no slippage.
They are handy attachments, enjoy.
