Hi guys, I have been a member here for a few years and finally bought a machine to rebuild. It has been sitting around for a while because of a dead engine and then parts were taken to keep another 2 machines going so I'm at this stage I am trying to find a wrecker or second hand parts, preferably in Australia. I have had a good look at Messics for new parts and Wegners in Meyerstown have a few of the larger things I need. If it helps to match parts for this machine to another model that will fit here are some of the major parts I need. Drive motor with the large double drive gear fitted Oil cooler Starter motor (ebay has them) 4 off brake discs Steel plate mount from the bell housing to the 2 bolt hyd pump Injectors and steel pipes from pump A set of 4 10 x 16.5 8 stud wheels Any information greatly appreciated, cheers Gary ps I am in Melbourne sorry for the unspaced version, if I switch to the HTML version I cant type in this area

Good to see you in these parts again.
From the pics you sent me, you sure have some work to do, but anything can be done.
What price have you been quoted for the drive motor? have you tried loader parts source for them too?
The starter and oil cooler shouldn't be a huge issue, you can probably modify it to take a different cooler if they want too much for it.

Hi Gazza, Can you post some pics of your machine? It's good to know I'm not the only one trying to bring one of these things back to life!

Hi again, sorry for the slow response finally got this sorted I hope.
It looks like I need to use internet explorer as the best way to upload edited text and photos, when using firefox I am unable to access the correct window to upload this information.
Will have a go at uploading this pic, I know its not pretty but it was for the right price, a lot of the missing parts are on a couple of pallets behind the machine.
It is now rolling on a set of 12 x 16.5 wheels, not the correct size I know but I am still looking for a set of 10" wheels.

see if this works

cheers

It does like IE better.
Looks like you have a bit of work to do, how have you gone with sourcing parts?

The rebuild is progressing well. I have bought most of the parts I need from a dealer in the states which should be here in about 6-7 weeks, more details to follow when they arrive. I did find a wrecker that is wrecking a LS170 here in Victoria (about 3hrs drive) but the costs of the parts was more than double. Found a few large and small cracks in the mainframe/boom so it looks like my brother will be doing some welding while it is apart. Does anyone have a good detailed picture or drawing of an exploded view of the tapered bushes and bolts used on all of the boom pivots on a New Holland machine? I have seen a few photos and information about hitting the arms with a BFH but it would be nice to see how they are made prior to trying to pull them apart. cheers Gazza

Time for some more photos, we found the easiest way to remove the tapered pins, with a home made puller. Bill (my brother) made this from some selected inventory and it works great, but be very careful when the pin lets go its like a projectile.
The attached pictures have a lot more details and this one puller fits all of the pins on the boom. Fit the puller as per the photos and tighten, sometimes just this tension is enough to pop the pin free or tighten the puller and then hit the housing with a hammer. This system should be improved by adding a bolt and large washer to the inside end of the puller this would stop all of the parts flying out and keep them contained.
cheers

Hi Ken, thanks for the link.
Unfortunately I bought the same version frm tradebit nearly 2 months ago, oh well.
It does however have a few blank pages in the electrical section, does anyone know if this is missing some electrical or wiring diagrams?

cheers

No sorry, mine is missing that info too, Perhaps your dealer would be willing to provide those few pages.

I have some electrical drawings for the machine that were sent to me by a member here. If you send me a e-mail address I will attemt to scan them and send them. Much cheaper that way. mine is stovein at live dot com. Can't promise immediate service but will give it a try , I only work when I run out of better things to do.

That machine had a hard life before you got it I think. Usually those pins come out easily if you strike them at 90 degrees to the length of the pin. They won't move if you try to drive them out so whack them on the side with a large hammer. How is the rebuild going financially? When done could you recover parts cost and something for the labor? How about the boom tip pins where it attaches to the quick attach plate? Good luck with the project, at least its summer there.

Ouch, at least it all can be repaired, that is a pretty simple repair as you have it pulled down so far i makes it easier and you can get an even better weld into it.

Any chance of sending me an email of those scanned pages of the missing electrical diagrams for the LS 170? It was pages 55-16 thru 55-18 that are sort of blank.
