Sorry if these are dumb questions but I am white collar guy trapped in a blue collar need to have equipment. Thus, I have no one I work with that I can bounce this stuff off, etc. So here goes. 1. I bought a loader on a sale last week. It is a 95 1845. The loader arms say 1845, no "C". The bill of sale says 1845C. How can I tell? Is there a VIN/ serial # decode site somewhere I can put it in? 2. How do I tell if it is the Cummins or Case diesel engine? 3. It has some disconnected wires around the engine bay. For instance it has a engine start assist system that looks to be an ether canister setup. It is not hooked up. I would like to find a wiring diagram. Anyone know where these can be sourced? 4. Also, the Alternator light never comes on when just the key is on or running. I am wondering if that is something to be of concern or normal?

I bought an 1845c about a year ago, I'm new to skid steers myself so by no means an expert but I thought the c stood for cummins. Pretty sure if you have a diesel engine your machine is a 1845c and it is a cummins. I think the ether cold start was an option, you probably do not need it hooked up, especially if you can plug in the block heater in cold weather. I think my charging system light does come on when you key on then goes out after it starts, you may just have a burnt out bulb, you could hook a voltmeter to the battery, start the machine and check what it reads, it should read between around 13.5 to 14.6 if your alternator is working. Can't help on the wiring diagram but here is a link to look up parts and part numbers http://www.colemanequip.com/Case_Parts.asp#Skid_Steer_Parts

Look on Ebay for a used Owners manual. I got one for $30, helps a lot. I have a 1816C, the C stands for the model change, not for diesel. I wish it was a diesel but someone put an 18 hp Vanguard engine to replace the 16 hp Onan gas one. Not much to the wiring on mine, I did some re-wiring on the fuel valve system. Have fun.
