Hi all.. Might be going to look at a 2000 Bobcat 763, that supposedly has 1100 hours, no leaks, engine runs good etc.. Only problem is he says it needs new bearings and one axle tube needs replaced/repaired. (Looks like he has run metal tracks on it.) At any rate, i assume you have to cut and weld on a new axle tube end? If this is true, can these be purchased somewhere? Has anyone done this repair and how tough is it? Thanks! Dave

Not as simple as just replacing the tube. There was a member a few years back that did this on an 8 series machine, it was REALLY bad.
He got a machine shop to machine new bearing cup and seal tube and also a guide. He cut the tube off, installed teh stepped sleeve to hold the two parts straight and welded them together. I'm not sure how he got the correct length, but i'd install the axle and hold it so its tight up aganist the bearing.
It can be done, but it will be hard....

if one tube went bad chances are the others arent far behind. most likley one seal leaked ran case dry .the ax tube can be reparid i got a dude .AXLE SURGEON> google it you are probally syill looking at 4 chains inspect sprockets. 8 brgs 8 races, 4 seals 4 speedy sleeveses 3 2.5 hyds two carrier seal and motor orings. its doable from a pocketbook stand point, but dont piggy bank (cut hole in roof and put all spare chaange here) the rest of unit shoud detirme if repair is worth it, this is something that may be worth the expense of running thru the shop and getting a quote. prior to purchase.

whats wrong with the axle tube , is the tube broke off or bent then that is rough but do-able ---------------- or is the tube wollowed out at the end so as the bearing race and seal has nothing to hold on to , if so it is easily repairable , what you need is an outside machinist that welds and has a line boring machine , there is a guy that has done a few for me in the New Orelans area , what he does is to weld up the end of the tube , then he sets up his machine and cuts the tube back to original specs , he use to charge $250 up per tube depending on how much welding he had to do and everything had to be taken apart ready for him to roll , but that was a few years back and I would bet it is more than that now , seems I remember having to disassemble the other side for him even though nothing was wrong over there so he could run his shaft thru the other side axle tube and he tack welded brackets to the tubes on both sides to hold everything in place while he cut with the machine and he would use the tube on the other side if good as a guide to get measurements from .......... does that make any sense to you

This has happened to me on the inside of the chaincase of an S250. Have you ever dealt with that Fishfiles? The axle and the interior tubing are unbelievably shot, and I couldn't even hear it grinding. (Operators left rear). I have an S300 chaincase that is in good condition, needs cleaned up and repainted, but other than that a pretty good candidate for a swap out. I am curious to hear your thoughts, which would you do? Try to find a machinist like the fellow you speak of, or just roll the sleeves up and swap everything out. I haven't done any measuring yet, but they seem to spec out same dimensions.
