I think the B is the same setup as the 1816. You should have three belts off the engine pulley, one for the loader arm functions, and one each for the left and right pump/drive motors. The first place I'd look is for the belt tension on the weak side. If there's any whip in the belt, it might not be proving enough flow. There are large pivot and locking bolts for drive pumps.some of these had a bolt on the left side pump that fell out. may even squak the belt a little.. or -- if you have a hand lever to put it in drive, check the springs and cable. there is an adjustment at the end of the cable..
Whoops, sorry. I misread your post. A loose belt would not cause the symptoms you described.I think the B is the same setup as the 1816. Sounds like the same setup as on my 1818, but sorry I don't have any manuals for mine (though I'd like to have either or both owner's and shop manuals). Make sure that the lever travel at the pumps are the same side-to-side, when you move your control levers forward/back. A loose belt will slip for either direction, so I can't see it being that. Otherwise, I suspect your pump may have an issue.Whoops, sorry. I misread your post. A loose belt would not cause the symptoms you described.
I have an 1816, too. I would appreciate a copy of the manual. [email protected] ThanksI have a pdf of the 1816 Operators Manual (9-4274) I can send you . Provide me your e-mail and I'll send it off!! I am not sure it has exactly what you want but it may help.
I bought an 1816 a year ago. I've replaced both front cylinders, all three belts, the fuel pump and have tightened the linkage that goes to the drive motors. I'd like to adjust the drive chains but I'm not sure what tension to adjust to. Currently all four are loose, so it bucks a bit during use. Any other information on this machine would be helpful. I thought replacing the 18hp engine on the 1816 was one of the worst jobs around. It was only four little bolts, but I could never get them started. There wasn't enough room to reach under the mounting bracket. I spent hours trying to get the front bolts started. I had my shop replace the mounting brackets with a 3/4" piece of plate tapped to receive the four mounting bolts from the top. With a long enough extension on the socket wrench, it takes less than a minute to remove each bolt, and about the same length of time to replace them. I want to replace the belts with Kevlar belts, so I'm going to remove the engine again.I bought an 1816 a year ago.
