I blew a timing belt on my Bobcat 751 which broke the cam and center cam journal. Am looking for a cam and journal. Any idea where I can find parts for it?

some one else may chime in but i think that engine is the same one in peugeot 505 turbo diesels..auto junk yard may be the place ..but those 505 and even the 504 were pretty rare cars for the usa ..especially in some areas..i believe the auto engine designation was xd2

I haven't been able to find a Peugeot parts supplier for the Bobcat engine, other than Bobcat, and they sure want a peek in my wallet every time. The engine is an XUD9. It was used in the Peugeot 306 sedan, which I believe was not imported to the US, hence the scarcity of parts. It was also used in a Toro 455 mower, if I remember correctly. Toro won't sell the engine any more, and when I priced pistons from Toro, they were $400 each, same as Bobcat wanted, so that's no help. If you feel like it, you can switch out the Peugeot engine for a Kubota. Since the Peugeot and Kubota engines rotate in opposite directions, it's not as simple as poking in a Kubota. The hydraulic pump has to be flipped in some fashion. Bobcat won't sell the Peugeot engine any more, but will sell a new Kubota and pump kit for $7K. Now you have just put $7K into an old Bobcat, which is worth about $7K if you try to sell it. And that's just the way it is...... And here I am needing to rebuild my Peugeot engine (low compression and drinks oil). By the way, if you back your 751 under a limb and push the exhaust pipe back toward the cab, the mounting bracket will push backward, breaking out the aluminum head where the muffler mounting bracket is bolted on. And that bolt also holds the right hand cam cap in place. If it ain't one thing, it's another. :-( ---Bobbie G.

ok i stand corrected about that engine ...i really feel for you guys ..i had the perkins engine in my 843 ..it sucks when your engine gets orphaned ,but i think i still had more options with the perkins. a machine shop might be able to make a new journal cap from scratch , and in the old days ...early 60s to mid 70s..there used to be auto machine shops every where that could repair a cam ..might be able to weld together and regrind .. As for repower you don't need to flip the pumps ,i believe the hydrostatic pump just would need the hoses switched ..the gear pump would have to be replaced for one with the other rotation 2 to 4 hundred dollars for that one i think . plus the new engine ..

Does anyone know of someone with w blown Peugot engine thwt has used parts for sale? I found a rebuilt cam and am now looking for the center cam journal cap. I am not sure but believe, according to what I am reading, that I will likely need pushrods and perhaps some valves. I assume these can be found locally? Have not pulled the head as I was hoping not to need to. Any thoughts? Am I dreaming to hope for only the visible problem of the broken cam and journal? The engine was at full power when the timing belt broke and with enough torque to break a cam in half and blow out the center journal doesn't sound promising.

Bobbie G reports having a 751C engine or is that an entire Bobcat for sale? Hopefully it is a spare engine?

I don't know if you will be able to buy just a cap. Pretty sure they are line bored so each cap is slightly different.
You will need to pull the head and check your vavles. They should be ok as they push straight down, not at an angle.
Parts are available in the UK, check the UK ebay, i found timing belts and idlers there. I my memory serves me well, the engine was the same as was used in the peugeot 306 diesel.

Still need help. W put the engine all back together and it starts with great difficulty and runs poorly like the injector pump is out of time? We don't have a manual for this so need some help on timing it properly. It has to be something simple, but it is beyond us without the Manuel. Help!!!

I never could find anyone willing to sell me the cam journal I needed so wound up just going to a machine shop and had one made to specs for $60 which is better than the original anyway. It reminds me of restoring a 1909 Ford where finding parts was near impossible as well! Just make them!

Timing is done with bolts. With the timing cover off, rotate the engine over till the hole in the injector pump pulley to the threaded hole, same with the cam shaft. The fly wheel, you can use a pin punch from the hole in the lower bell housing and the fly wheel. If they all match, the timing is correct.

Sometimes it is impossible to sell this part separate. In some cheaper production lines, the cylinderhead is flattened, then the cam journals are bolted on, and as final step the long cam hole is drilled. So impossible to have the spares with the right half-bore. Or they should be sold "too high" with more than 1/2 hole, and then filed to spec (0.02 mm ?)

It's probably too late now but this may help someone else with a Peugeot motor in the 751. The Peugeot xud9 motors are a dime a dozen in Europe. I blew a timing belt and went to EBay UK and bought all my parts for the xud9. Heads, pistons, head gaskets, crank bearings etc...you name it they have them cheap in Europe. Shipping wasn't bad and very fast. I called a place in Europe from eBay and they sold me everything I needed. Bobcat wanted $1,800.00 for just the Pistons... I got them for $200.00 from Europe. Good luck to anyone that has to go through this.

That was an awesome deal.
They are a nice engine, but the price on parts can be really horrible if you don't live in the right country.
