HELP!!! Mustang Starts, Then Dies!!

I Just bought a Mustang 2040 a little while ago. I spent a good part of the day digging a driveway with it and at the end of the day I parked it on the driveway to clean up my tools and when I came back to move it for the night it Started Ran for a few seconds and Died. It starts right back up Runs for a Few seconds and Dies.... Can anyone give me any ideas? Is it electrical? Relays? Silinoids? What should i look for? I know there is alot of by-passed junk like the seat switch and such. Anyone have a wiring diagram? THANKS

What do you class as a few seconds? if its the same every time, and generally 15-30 seconds it could be the computer shutting it down.
It could be the fuel shut off solenoid or air in the system, cracked pickup tube, there are a lot of things it could be.

It dies in like 3-4 seconds EVERYTIME. It just blows me away because it was just working great. and I also hear a little click up by my head when it does it. Up by the Relays. (3) But i doesnt look like i can just pull one out and replace it... they are all like one.

Check the lap bar plug, wires and maybe switch, my brother has 2064 that will do that if the lap bar is unplugged. Good luck Brent.

I would think it is some kind of safety, maybe in the seatbelt if you have to have it lock to run it, i really not that familiar with those machine. Brent.
Make sure your seatbelt is buckled securely. The buckle switch could be dirty or corroded, not making continuity, which will allow the fuel solenoid to pull the rack closed.

"Bypassed junk" was there for a reason. If there were no Darwin, there would be no "junk" as you put it. It is there to protect you from yourself, otherwise you are an accident just waiting to happen. Buckle Up!

I have a 96 2040 with the Yanmar. Give it a shot of starting fluid,wd40 or some thing to rule out a fuel problem. There can be computer problems but check your fuses first. You have manual switches for your hydraulic and brake safety lockouts (rocker switches next to your key) and a faulty seat switch would only activate the e-brakenot, not shut off your engine.

The fuel problem could be either your lift pump or maybe the selenoid on the injection pump. you can do an emergency bypass of the lift pump by installing a electric pump and the selenoid you can test. It does sound like a fuel issue.

If I latch the belt behind me (defeating it's purpose) the engine will shut off if I rise from the seat. If I don't latch the belt nothing happens. What is a "e-brakenot"? A word of caution using starting fluid: DON'T! Use the glow plugs instead. Starting fluid can blow the glow plugs apart, damaging piston crowns, valve seats, liner walls, etc., but it's your engine - do what you want.

Rookie, I might have made a mistake , my Gehls lock up the brakes when the seat switch is activated. If your Yanmar is like mine , no turbo, the starting fluid is for me no big deal.But I understand your concern. Hope you get it fixed.

Rookie , also the Yanmar has a preheater on the intake, no glow plugs. The emergency brake is what I mean't by e-brake

Dman, I have a mustang 2054 and it was running fine then all of a sudden the wheels llocked up and it died, it would restart for a few seconds and then die. The thing has a timer up above that went bad , it is located to the right of the key switch about in the center of the machine, the dealer told me not to bolt the new one is as they are in there kind of tight, hope this helps

First My ebrakenot locked on my Mustang 2054. Then it would start and die within a few seconds. There were two blown fuses, now it runs but the ebrakenot still locks. I'll look in the manual for a wiring diagram, I've seen it before, not sure I can download the diagram for posting however. I believe there needs to be a safety system, I just don't think it needs to be so excessively complex.
