Mustang 440 Motor Posted: 05/11/2010 05:56 PM |
| I just got an Older Mustang 440 . Motor is out of it , in pieces, some missing , cam and carb . It came with a motor out of some sort of a sweeper . It appears to be a Ford , it has a carter YF carb on it . It hasa coil pack rather than a distributor . There is some sort of a control box to control ignition . There is a three wire harness orange , red, and black , then there is a single black bullet connector about mid harness. If I can get this motor fired up , I 'll try puttin git in , looks like it should work . Otherwise I need to find another motor or parts to rebuild the original one . What kinda mess did I get myself into ? lol Suggestions ???
Thanks |

I'd try and get the engine running first, see how you go from there.
The one that was in it is probably worn out, thats why it was in pieces... |

| Well , I got the motor out of the sweeper to fire up and run . It is a 1990 ford 1.6 . Sounds good . Got wiring figured out . It same system they use on English Fords . Escort with 1.3 liter be be exact , very simple system . Gonna get some pics of progress on this project . Good clean up , then start swapping mounts and hardware etc.
Thanks |

| Well ,his is turning into more of a headache than it looked like. The transplant motor ,although very similar in looks ,lacks many of the bosses and brackets the old motor had . Water outlet in different , exhast , gov mounting brackets etc. Gonna be a lot of fabricating ahead ! Looks like I'll be removing the engine /hyd pump craddle from loader . Then lining up new motor , building new mounts . Once thats done I can figure out exhaust , gov mount, and radiator hoses . Might be some Frankenstein plumbing going on ,lol . |

| how easily is the motor going to line up with the pump. once that is done the rest is easy because that dictates where everything must go. i am using stock radiator, exhaust, alternator, breather, all had to be modified to fit when in put a 20r toyota motor in a bobcat. i have the ford motor out of it if you can use the parts. im in iowa also. |
