anyone know were i can get a user guide or a shop manual for a SL30 hesston skid steer? Thanks to someone here i have the engine manual. I am having a problem with it overheating. The fan is turning and it appears to be circulating the water but the lite and alarm are going off. Any ideas.

Could it be a bad sender or blocked radiator?
It could even be a stuck thermostat. Some fail open but some fail closed and will not let coolant curculate causing it to over heat. I'd remove the thermostat and put it in boiling water, ensure it opens up.

Also a hand held temp gun is worth it weight in gold to see if the light is accurate.

It looks like it is flowing. Should it be real fast or kind of slow?

Thermostat opens at 180 on the stove.
When does the light and alarm go off? After 10 or 20 mins of operating or right away? I wonder if its a problem with the sensor/sender for the alarm or a bad wire that has had the insulation worn through and is touching ground, or it could be a bad ground in the wire harness.
Anyway you can fit another guage or pick up a hand held temp gun to verify how warm the engine is when the alarm goes off?
The coolant is normal looking I guess? if you blow a head gasket it gets all oily and grey but you can have almost instant over heat problems.
Does the rad seem to get hot? Is there a hot breeze from the fan? The fan shroud is still there and the fan belt is tight insuring good air flow though the rad.
Rads get plugged inside and don't transfer heat, if you spray the rad with a mist of water from a garden hose the evaporation of the water will cool it down, if this help the heat may be getting to the rad but not out into the air from the fan for some reason.
Does it only overheat when working it and cool down when you leave it it idle? or once its hot it just keeps getting hotter? (won't cool off even if you remove the load from the engine?)

the non-contact laser thermometer is on sale now at Harbor Freight for $29. I am not a big fan of their stuff but I got one when I had thermostat problems and it works great for stuff like that. You can sure narrow a problem down with one.

It takes about ten to20 minutes. the fluid looks good. I have a heat probe on my multi meter. Th rad lite came on and i checked temp. It was at 180 i then checked in front of rad it read 165. I then dropped it into the oil it read 180. I am assuming it is the sending unit . After it idled for a little while the alarm went off. I think Im going to retro a temp gauge and see what happens. Thanks to everyone who helped.

I have never heard of the brand, i think it may be tough finding a manual. I personally would install an aftermarket temp sender and gauge, even if just to test. Hook it up out the back of the machine and give it a good run and see what its telling you. If it sits about right, its a bad sender.
There really isn't a lot to the cooling system. The most common problem is the radiator blocking up. You check everything else but the problem is still there. I like Ken's idea of wetting the radiator core. Run the machine then shut it down. Use a spray bottle to wet the cooling pipes of the radiator and check for evaporation. Pretty much all the pipes should dry up about the same rate.
Using a non-contact thermometer is better than the one you have on your DMM, you can quickly change location and get a reading. They are really handy! They also give an instant reading, you don't need to wait for the probe to warm up.

I now believe it is a short someplace. When I start it up the alarm sounds right away sometimes not always and it goes off after ive been running it for a while. Someday I'll have to trace out the wires and see were the problem is. But thanks to everyone for your help.

And so it goes with alarms, often they are more trouble then what they monitor. Yet I'd feel terrible if I ignored one and it was'nt a false.
Good to here there is no real problem. (aside from the minor wiring glitch)
As for the manual, I wish you luck, I had never heard of a heston skidsteer either though I'm aware of their ag line. Try ebay and internet seaches, post wanteds on the bulletin boards.

For a manual you may want to try your Agco dealer they have the parts for the Hesston skid loaders because I see it in the parts system at work.

Hello, I've been doing some research on the Hesston SL30 skid loaders (as one is for sale near my home) and I haven't found much information. Could you provide any information about this machine? Reliability? Performance? Anything I should look for or ask if I test drive the machine? Also I would want to run powered attachments do these units have auxiliary hydraulics? Thanks
