Hello: Was wondering if anyone had experienced this senario. My 853 intermittenly will starve for fuel. It will actually collapse the priming bulb trying to get fuel. I've replaced the fuel lines, the line in the tank and the strainer/check valve in the tank. I've pulled out all the lines from the tank and put them in a 5 gal. container of fuel and it will do the same thing. If you play with water seperator on the fuel filter sometimes it will seem to help....any ideas as to what to look for? Thanks, Jeff

You must have a bad pickup tube or hose, or your fuel is geling. Thats the only reason your primer bulb will collapse. If there is no restriction, it will not flatten out..... It may be the primer bulb its self, have you tried replacing it? as they have a one way reed valve in them.

Sounds like something is plugging either the inlet of the primer bulb or the elbow where the fuel pickup connects.

I have replaced the priming bulb and disconnected all right angle fitting at the tank, and at the fuel filter and still can seem to find the problem.

Drop a new line from the primer bulb in a clean jug of fuel and see what it does. If it fixes it you have a restriction in the line to the tank. Most likely the screen on the line in the tank.

Sounds like you've checked everything!?! Have you checked that the fuel cap is venting...longshot but it has happened before, usually takes quite a while before the primer would collapse though. I'd say drain the tank and see what comes out. There is a rubber grommett and a metal plug behind the 3 bolt cover under the machine. Best to have a helper if the tank has a lot of fuel in it to reduce the mess.

Thanks for the replies: I did take a hose, minus the fuel pickup line/strainer/checkvalve, from a clean 5 gal. can of fuel and it did the same thing. I also took the fuel cap off while testing things and the bulb collapsed. Even though I purchased another priming bulb, I went out today and bought another one just to see what happens. Running out of ideas!!!! Thanks for all the suggestions, I appreciate it. Jeff

Is it a new hose from the bulb to the 5 gal container? Check the flow direction of the new bulb? Will the engine run with the bulb eliminated from the line?

I had exactly the same problem. It turned out that my metal elbow coming out of the fuel tank was plugged. I lifted the canopy, got into the area around the tank plug and pulled it out of the tank. It was nearly totally plugged, just enough to suck fuel in to get it started, but not running well. After I cleaned it, the bulb worked normally and was not collapsed. Try it.

JBowling… did you ever get this remedied? I am having the same problem, collapsing primer bulb in a pail of fuel. I'm thinking it has to be the bulb because I rigged a jerry can for fuel on top of the cab with the primer bulb & starved the engine… removed bulb & all is running fine. Now if I can just figure a way to have the bulb removed from the line to the standard fuel tank to see if it will run, then I would have "nailed down" the problem. I'm 5 hr. away to purchase a new bulb.

You can put some air pressure in the fuel tank to bleed it out (air compesure or shop vac in reverse) you can buy from bobcat drop ship right to your door or ebay evan cheaper
