Hi, I have recently acquired a T133 with a V1903-E engine. Unfortunately the head is cracked between one of the valves and the injection port. Does anyone know of a place that can repair this head, or maybe a place to purchase a used one? I would appreciate any help. Thanks, Dennis

That sounds like a Kubota engine? if so, call around a few Kubota dealers and see what they have available. There are places that can weld head cracks, but i'm not sure how much i would trust them.

Hi, Yes it is a Kubota, the crack is between the largest valve on one of the cylinders and the injection port. Thanks, Dennis

They love cracking between valves and to the pre-combustion chambers.
I'd start with a Kubota dealer see what they have available. But you will be looking at at least the $800 mark i'm afraid. There aren't a lot of second hand ones about as the heads crack a LOT. They get hot and they are gone. Great engine, but the heads are prone to cracking.
They even come up on e-bay, brand new.

Hi, The original engine in the skid steer was a v1902 the engine was replaced with a v1903 in 99 or 2000 (or that what I was told and the valve cover say v1903 although the intake says v1902), I have found a very reasonable price head for a v1902, does anyone know if it will work on a V1903? Thanks, Dennis

Good question.... I had the same sort of *problem* with some engines i got, mt dad actualy contacted Kubota and they confirmed the head i had that was a different number would work on a V1702. I would give them a call and see what they say. I would say yes but i'd like confirmation first.... Are you able to sit the heads side by side? then you can be sure.

I have the v-1903 head off, but without purchasing a v1902 i cannot set the side by side, I tried sending a message to the kubota engine department, but they could not help much. I will try and call them. Thanks, Dennis

Good luck, do tell us how you go.
Go to www.imbobcat.com and fill out a parts request for your head and I will find you one.
The heads seem to all be about 1200.00 exchange completely rebuilt ready to rock and roll.
The core is still good to me too! I will accept it.

Hi, I was just wondering if it would work, I can pick one up very inexpensive. Thanks, Dennis
HI, I just got an email back from someone who said the only difference between a V2203 and V1903 head is the V1903 has 4 more holes which can be drilled in a V2203 head. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks, Dennis

Sorry, i can't confirm this.
I used a head from a V1503 on a V1702. The only difference was the thermostat housing, it was the entire width of the head instead of half like the V1702 head. Was an easy swap over, no drilling or anything. It could be something close to that on the V1903.
If the head is really cheap, it may be worth the *risk* too.
Have you tried contacting Kubota? my dad called them and confirmed that the head i had would fit a V1702, which it did!

Hi, I picked up a new head for a V2203, I paid $357. The price is right so I am going to take the risk. I called Kubota, but they were non-committal to say the least. The said there were some minor differences, when I asked about making them compatible they said I should just order the right part :( (at $1200!!). Does anyone know the cheapest place to buy gaskets? I found a top end set for $110 which seems like a good price.
I did have a bad experience with one guy, I have included the emails for amusement purposes :). By the way I have an email for a guy who will sell a checked over head (by a machine shop) for $400!! This was a bummer to have someone get so offended by simple questions.

A V2203 head is different! you need one of the older style ones, sorry to say. The V2203 has its glow plugs on the top of the head and the pre-combustion chambers have like 3 wavey patterns on them instead of the slot on the old head. It may still work all the same, but you need to ensure the water gallery holes line up, bolt holes too and oil squirter. I hope it will fit though but you must check to ensure it will fit and things line up.
Why didn't he just give you a price? not ask what YOU wanted to pay? thats just really odd he said there were injectors, valves, springs etc and never said they were worked on. The head may be just fine, but who knows the state of the rest of the gear? that was a fair price I'd think.

Mine also has the glow plugs on top and the 2 wavey pattern. I am going to attempt to put up a link to the pictures of my cracked head. I figured for the price I would give it a shot. I can always resell it if it does not fit. I did find a guy (Bob) with a complete V1903 head for $400. The only thing is the head is from a Refer, so no telling how many hours are on it. I am not sure why he didn't just give me the price, he is also getting them off a reefer, so I figured the price should be in line with what I was being offered elsewhere. I did not mean to offend him, but I thought it was a valid question considering the potential hours. The $400 head I found was being sent to a machine shop to have it checked over, so I was just expecting the same from the other guy. Oh well, all in all the people I have talked with over the forums have been great. I really appreciated the wealth of knowledge and willingness to share it. If all goes well I will have a running Thomas T133 in the next few weeks for ~$1000. Then its off to making a complete mess out of the field behind my house :) . Pics Old Head:

Glad to see the old head is the same style as the V2203
A reefer head will be the same, its the same head but they have a different setup for the idle up controller is all.
