maybe a dumb question

I have a customer who needs his back yard redone. The whole entire yard needs to be graded properly. My question id if i put new top soil down on what appears to be grass can i lay new sod over top?

It depends on how much you're building up the soil. If it's a few inches you can probably get by. Otherwise you should till it up.

When grass is covered with dirt it begins to compost. Compost create's heat wich could kill the roots of the sod. I would strip it first to be safe. I am sure it's been covered over many times with good results but I have gone behind others where it did'nt work.
